okay - some related topics you may want to explore re. dissertation:
the critique of hyperrealism could be considered a critique of pleasure/hedonism/escapism
critques of pleasure etc. are nothing new - consider religious views of 'productive' human experience as opposed to 'non-productive' - for example, masturbation as a sin (Onanism), because of the idea that it 'wastes' the 'seed' (or productive element). You might want to research ideas about 'sinful' leisure activities - i.e. puritanist views of singing and dancing as 'improper'.
Consider too historical critiques of 'immersive' experience as opposed to 'alientating' experience - the difference perhaps between Stanislaviskian Theatre and Brechtian Theatre (the 'alienation effect') as seen in Mulholland Drive and Funny Games.
also - hyperrealism is often synonymous with later capitalist, American culture - and critics of it are often from a European intellectual tradition...
