Hello.

I couldn't finish my project. My rig doesn't work. When I switch IK|FK it distorts mesh. Therefore I cannot animate and cannot pose it for my project. Without character it looks incomplete.

I don't see the point doing skinning etc. The problem is caused by the rotation of joints. It is better to do this again, than redoing or trying to fix it. Obviously, I don't have time to do it.

I took the Dummy character from Digital Tutors DVD to use for the pre-viz, with the texture etc. However, everything else is ready. Complete animated environments for this particular project, designed and animated interfaces for the Wheel environment and Chair room, camera movements, and some animation of the Dummy character, music and sfx.

The question is what should I present then ? Rendered environments with wireframes and pre-viz ? Is it enough? Of course, aside from paperwork.

Let me know, what do you think.

First of all, thanks to tutor Phil, who suggest me to make backup asap. If I didn't do it, I would lost all my data! (Now, I'm little bit paranoid, because I backup every hour :) ) I've got my laptop back yesterday. Service didn't change graphic card, because it passed all test. However, I found solution to avoid color dumps - downloaded MSI afterburn and reduced core clock from 675 to 625. Now it works fine. However, I still lost 2 weeks. :(

Anyway, reinstalled everything and working hard.

As I said, I am going to duplicate few chairs on the background for composition. The light is bright, this will be changed. Character is in progress, soon I will have textured model and ready for rigging.

The structure is simple puzzle(game) -> failure -> reason.

It was not clear for audience what character must do in the maze (previous animatic and storyboarding) and what are the game rules. Therefore I decided to make the casino room, which has only roulette table. It is easy to understand and helps me better explain character's bet, which is his life. Character desire is - win 1mln. He has knowledge that chances are equal to zero to win this game, but still makes his bet. He fails and dies. Furthermore, we see that there are a lot of people who desire play this game. They still think that they have chance, in fact no chance at all. The street where people famish with hunger shows us the reason why they participate. People behind this game are making their profit (most valuable for human being) at the expense of desperate people.

There are three doors, this time he chooses the third one. He is in a hurry, because he knows that he has not much time left.

Camera zooms out from labyrinth through the glass of the screen to the dystopia streets. We see people back of the head. They are watching this show. The camera slowly zooms out and shows us what behind them. The burning barrels, full of rubbish streets poisoned with smog, dying human beings lay on the street, the alcohol bottles are everywhere, postcards on the walls.

A showman’s voice from the screen says “Another failure, well we will come back after short advertisement, stay with us, maybe the next player will get lucky”.

Virtual humans, both physical (robots) and online avatars will be added to the workforce. "Already, animated characters can recognize speech, convert text to speech, and have knowledge of previous encounters," says Evans.

By 2020, robots will be physically superior to humans. IBM's Blue Brain project, for instance, is a 10-year mission to create a human brain using hardware and software. "They believe that within a decade they'll start to see consciousness emerge with this brain," Evans says.

By 2025, the robot population will surpass the number of humans in the developed world. By 2032, robots will be mentally superior to humans. And by 2035, robots could completely replace humans in the workforce.

Beyond that, we'll see the creation of sophisticated avatars. Evans points to IBM's Watson as a template for the virtual human. Watson was able to answer a question by returning a single, accurate result. A patient may use a virtual machine instead of a WebMD search. Or hospitals can augment patient care with virtual machines.

Between now and then, augmented reality and gesture-based computing will enter our classrooms, medical facilities and communications, and transform them as well. "Already, machine vision enables users to take a picture of a Sudoku puzzle with their smartphone and have it solved almost immediately," he notes.

I want to tell this story with the colors.Warm, earth colors - imaginary world, cold, industrial colors - real world.

In one of the shots two worlds must merge together for a second, I decided not to change shapes, but add cold colors in imaginary world by bringing storm clouds, or change weather, or change colors in general like solar eclipse.

The next decision I've made were mountains. The airship will flight above the mountains in the imaginary world. I, also, thought of mountains on the background in the real world, but I need here contrast too, so I've decided to add skyscrapers. Obviously, because mountains are nature's creations and skyscrapers human's.

This storyboard shows camera movement, events and general idea. If I receive green line, I will do pre-viz and work with the shots and actions more.

I've changed structure, because I need to deliver my message more clearly, however, there is still work to do, to tell this story even more better.

I understood that my project isn't strong enough in terms of concept and there are a bunch of holes in it. I've used wrong metaphors to deliver a message of my animation. Now I'm reconsidering my project: message, approach and entourage. And what is more important my goal in this project. It shouldn't take long time and I hope I will update with more clear idea soon. At the moment, I'm a little bit lost.

BLUR IN ON:

Road in the middle of nowhere

There are few damaged telegraph poles near destroyed road. A small scorpion is trying to cross it over. He is moving towards inactive windmill turbines and mountains which covered the background.

Suddenly, scorpion gets squished by a man’s boot.

Sick and tired man is directing his dot-and-go-one walk towards his home. His clothes are worn-out and dirty.

Ext. House

Our sight is attracted by the post-apocalyptic house, John Carmack style, which stands by the road. The man enters the house.

Int. House

He sits behind the desk and starts doing something. The camera refocuses on the room to show its details. The old plates weren’t washed for months, empty bottles, papers, boxes and different garbage are scattered everywhere. Flies hovering above the rotten food.

Now we are able to see his desk and himself more closely. He fills the flask with green liquid and injects it in his eye. This is the first time we can see his face closely. The camera zooms in his eye.

Ext. Airship (Illusion)

The airship is flying above the hills and mountains. It has no steering control and only god knows where it goes. The man sits on the upper deck in the chair and feels good. He doesn’t look sick anymore, he smiles. Everything seems to be so far away. Colors are saturated and the view is distorted in this part of illusion.

Int. House

The trip is over. The man injects with shaking arms another flask. The trip continues.

Ext. Airship

Same airship and environment, however, this time colors a little bit desaturated distortion is more obvious. The ship flies away and leaves us with ambiguity and unanswered questions.

Int. House

Close up camera shows us a dead face of the man. His eyes are deadly white. Without transition it zooms out the character’s face to the room and the house itself. We are able to see the lonely house in the middle of nowhere.

A small sketch of airship "Баян".

Every person has it's own representation of freedom: money, motorcycle, car, thinking that they think differently, etc. I've chosen for my character an airship. It is romantic and beautiful in its own way.

I used syringe form to reflect addiction of my character. The airship represents both freedom and despair at the same time.

The act will take place in an illusion. Every illusion gives escape and some kind of freedom, however it is uncontrollable condition. Therefore this airship doesn't have a control column. And no one knows where it can lead and there is no escape too (only jump).

This is only a quick sketch. So, not much details there, just an idea.

Hello there!
Plans! Sounds epic, but don't worry, I think they are just, let's say, just thoughts!

While I'm thinking about my minor project which has a name "Coma", I'm going to finish and renew my transcription project: add details, characters etc. I've created a W.I.P. (those who understand Russian - welcome - Attic W.I.P) - New feedbacks and motivation will help me on that.

First of all, I'm doing this for a better portfolio. And secondly, I'm still writing my profoma essay ( which I stupidly failed) and thinking of the "Coma" so it's a perfect time to return and polish that needs to be polished and finished!

I'm starting to learn new software, but I'm not going to talk about this yet. Maybe later with update and works.

Anyway, these are my priorities for now. Let's see.
By the way, I have a great news, my major priority!, my girlfriend is in england. my Muse, my Motivation, my Love!

Currently I'm working in Butch Auntie company as a part of my workplacement project. Butch Auntie is an Audio Visual company. Mainly, they are doing visual projection for various live events. I was involved in different kind of projects - one of them - Cotton Club.

I've produced some "ribbon" piano visuals for this event.

Maya Optimization: I watched this tutorial. However, I couldn't render it and make it, because Maya couldn't find and then couldn't render textures normally. I tried to reload them and still nothing. To be honest, the whole project file didn't work normally. Anyway tutorial is clear and I have the idea.

MR Shadows: This time I managed to reload all textures and Maya allowed me to make render. Only once :(

Dynamics.

Couldn't batch render first 2, because of this: Don't know how to fix it. I'll try reinstall Maya, but only by the end of this week.

I have few problem: in render view Maya shows 1min30seconds per frame, but when I'm starting batch render the render time increases up to 5 min per frame.

I hope someone will help me with the Rendering in uni, because otherwise I will not finish project. This is only statement of fact nothing more.

Houston we've got a problem

So, I couldn't render my scenes in the uni. Firstly, there were problems with importing projects. Then Maya couldn't read files from sourceimages (WTF?). Thanks to Jolanta and Tom I solved these problems. The solution was just to safe them again with different names. Then without any normal message Maya refused batch render my scenes.

That's how ended my day. Well, I think, Tutor Alan will help me on tuesday and hopefully I can render most heavy scenes.
Anyway good day, because I've learned good hints from Tom, which for some reason uni doesn't teach us. (poker face)

Introducing the Midnight. I don't know which version is better. I like the first one, because rotation of the whole is make sense and more dynamic. The second one is good too, but rotation of the solid parts in solid object is a little bit wierd.

By the way, I fixed the size of the floor and bricks. Also, added some dirts on the bricks.
I have two spot lights from the "door" in the floor and from the window. Another idea is to set up a basic lighting and the rest make in postproduction.

There will never be a satisfaction, but I'm quite happy (a little bit) with the result.

The Chair is most tedious process, because it consists of many different shapes and it took time on UV process. I've created temporary shader, but something tells me that this temporary will be permament.

Render is not final, consider it as preview to show that on renders they look almost the same.

All UV's are almost done, few left. And ready to be textured.

It is the best version of everything I've done today. It looks normal, scratches and texture itself give feeling of old antique furniture. I hope table will work with other objects and lights.

Also, fighting with a fire, I'm not satisfied with the results therefore I will not post them, until appropriate one. But I'm getting there.

I'm happy with the mirror. Needs to be destroyed a little bit - geometry or texture, don't know.
I also have a cupboard, but I won't use it in my scene. First of all, I don't have any actions with it and don't want to cook up something. Secondly, as I said, it will be too much.

Here are the variations of the attic. Attic has enough furniture for abandoned place, however, I thought to add a cupboard. But later I decided that I would add some household stuff like boxes, plates, bags, etc.

Next question is "one or two windows?". Two allow me to place the fireplace in right positions, because on the second and third pictures it has illogical position (fireplace in the roof ?), but here it is in focal point. On the first we are not able to recognise it quickly.
